A hardy, coarse, densely colonial, native, perennial grass that grows 5-7′ tall, Prairie Cordgrass is an excellent soil stabilizer of shores, stream banks, slopes, buffers and vegetated swales due to the large rhizomatous mass it creates. This species is well suited to restore wetlands, marshes, wet meadows, wet prairies and shorelines. Prairie Cordgrass can be an aggressive plant, so it may be useful to compete with non-native and invasive species or revegetate a site quickly to prevent erosion.
