An aromatic, small-flowered, deciduous tree with a branchless trunk, the Black Cherry grows up to 75′ tall with a crown half its height. This species is the largest member of the cherry trees and is widely sought for its rich brown wood. Black Cherry trees produce tart but edible fruit that are an important food crop for birds and wildlife. These trees also bloom white flowers in the spring and turn yellow in the fall! Additionally, Black Cherry trees are well suited for use as a flowering or shade tree and used in woodland restoration, upland buffers and erosion control.
